![]() Sure, she has an ass I could happily bounce quarters off of, but she looks kind of like a horse. Most damningly, to me, she's not really that hot, either, which is the one trait her "character" (a reformed virgin… heh) needs to possess. The tone is at times arch, then just as suddenly flat and realistic, then pitched at such a state of heightened absurdity that it almost demands the accompaniment of The Benny Hill Show's "Yakety Sax." And then there's the casting of someone like Guerra, who can barely string together seven or eight coherent words, let alone imbue them with any sort of realistic inflection. What could have been a fairly streamlined riff on something like Noises Off is instead bloated and creaky, with all sorts of unfunny asides to accommodate the appearances of, say, Charles Shaughnessy (who suffered through a small screen marriage to Fran Drescher in The Nanny) as the diamond-hunting Professor Cavendish, or James DeBello as a perpetually stoned bartender, or franchise carryovers Fishel and Jennifer Lyons as a couple of money-grubbing, thinly veiled lesbians-in-waiting. (Djimon Hounsou doesn't cameo, alas.) Dorm Daze 2 will never be mistaken for high art, but it's the type of movie that's mortally compromised by its overly forced commitment to ensemble and cameo-laden hijinks. Ha!) That's right, the movie sets its action aboard a ship, the Surveyor, which sets sail for Mexico and en route finds many of its inhabitants jettisoning their inhibitions - all against the backdrop of both an onboard theatrical production and a frantic search for a large, fabled diamond worth $20 million. ![]() A strange mash-up of Clue and some misbegotten Love Boat episode, Dorm Daze 2 finds the students of the same college in the first film, Billingsley University, ditching campus routine for, as the plot synopsis on its back cover notes, "fun, sun and high times on the high seas." (Yes, that was a pot joke. ![]() It's with a commingled sense of shame and duty that I report I did indeed see this first film, and can therefore state with authority that the few bits in Dorm Daze 2 that play off of that picture don't discernibly add to one's level of enjoyment of this rather fetid offering.
